Too Scared To Be A Millionaire?

Are you TOO SCARED to be a millionaire? A recent article at NewScientist.com says - "Probably!" I remember many phone conversations when I was publishing my print newsletter analyzing home business opportunities. They'd call wanting to know the "next great thing". I suppose I could have started a stampede if I'd wished. But it wouldn't have lasted long. These were the folks who thought that buying a distributor kit and making an initial purchase would result in riches because others would flock to the opportunity and they'd never have to learn any new skills. I thought of these folks when I saw the article. They were risk averse. Riches came from getting lucky instead of work. I thought of those calls when I read this article. This article states - based on contestants in the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" that most who apply to the show and thereby identify themselves as wanting to be a millionaire are too risk averse and would get more money if they took more chances. The problem with the article is the typcial bias of salaried scientists who never have to risk a thing in their lives. They equate becoming a millionaire with GAMBLING. The implication is that all millionaires are gamblers... some just chose a franchise instead of a roulette wheel. This is to warn you about a SCAM currently being propagated on Craiglist.org and Monster.com As I noted on 1st-WorkFromHomeJobs.com's Yahoo Forum this scam could get the parent company in hot water. They've posted a weekly earnings figure that EVERY ATTORNEY GENERAL IN THE US needs to verify. They list "compensation $700 to $1000 weekly". Small Business Economy on the Mend

The small-business economy is recovering slowly but surely, according to the July 2005 SurePayroll Small Business Scorecard, an economic indicator that tracks the health of U.S. small businesses. "We've seen five straight months of increased hiring," says Michael Alter, president of the online payroll service. "In fact, we've only had one down month in the past 16 months."

While that's good news, Alter warns that the magnitude of growth is less than desired. As of the end of July, the SurePayroll Hiring Index shows annual growth in small-business hiring at just under 0.6 percent for 2005. According to SurePayroll, much of the growth is coming from small businesses in the Northeast.

Small-business salaries have generally been trending down in 2005, but are now on the rise. The SurePayroll Scorecard has recorded salary increases for two months in a row, and the average salary at small businesses now stands at $28,745. For the full report, visit SurePayroll's site.

Keywords - Don't underestimate their importance

Everyone knows all about keywords right? Well, that's what most people think, and to a degree that are probably right. However, in this article we are going to look at not just the importance of having targetted keywords, but what keywords you should use on your site, and in what order they should be listed in your META tags for seach engines.

Ok, so you've got a list of 100 really good keywords. Here are a few steps you should take:

1. Remove any keywords that are only one word (eg. money). These keywords will not bring you targetted visitors.

2. Remove any keywords that don't directly relate to your site, you really only want a list of 5 - 10 keyword phrases of 2 - 4 words (eg. home based business, earn money from home etc.) Don't worry about having a short list if you do, it will change in the next steps : )

3. Ok, now for some good stuff. Open up the Overture Keyword Selector Tool. Enter in what you think your best keyword phrase is, then click on the little blue arrow. (eg. "work at home business")

4. Now, what you will see immediately is the popularity of your search term witht he number of searches done at Overture for the past month. You'll also see similar search terms with their popularity listed.

5. Create a simple text file and list in it each search term and it's popularity. Feel free to try different searches, and sometimes it is better to just use 1 word, and let the tool provide you with suitable phrases.

6. Sort your list by search popularity, ie. the highest numbers go at the top.

7. Now, delete any more than 10, and certainly anything that has a number of under 10,000.

8. Now you have your new list of keywords, ensure that you enter them into you META tag in the order they are listed. An example which I use for this page is below:

<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="home based business,home business,work from home,work at home,business opportunity,home based business opportunity,home business opportunity">

9. Now, the next step which is equally as important is to include the first 2 keywords in your page title and at the beginning of your description META tags.

10. Ensure that you use all of your keywords at least once on your site! Some search engines will penalise sites for list keywords in their META tag that do not exist anywhere else on the website.

Well, that's about it in a nutshell, remember that good keywords are imperative in driving search engine traffic to your website. The more people that search for a term, the more people that are likely to visit your site - sounds simple I know, but you'd be amazed at how many people ignore this simple rule!

Search Engine Rankings Position

To make a web page search engine friendly and get a good search engine position it should have the keyword or phrase placed throughout the page in several places. You need to have it the phrase or keyword in the meta tag and page description. It should also be placed several times throughout the page. If you put the keyword too many times on a page a search engine may consider it Spam and ban your site from its listing. I will not go into the details of what search engine to optimize for or how exactly to do this as there are several resources out there that do a fine job of explaining exactly how to do this. It may take several days to several weeks to get listed in a search engines index. If you like you could also Sign up for an account with ah-ha.com and get access to over 450 million searches a month. With this service you would pay for each search done to find your site. I would recommend pay per search while your website is idle and the search engine spiders find your site.
It's not easy getting ranked well, but it can be rewarding if you have the patience to get a good search engine position.

Setting up a Home Business Website

As you know it can be very expensive to attract new customers. You can cut down on those expenses by "upselling" to those new customers. For example, let's say you're selling a computer with a 15" monitor for $1200. You tell people they can upgrade to a 17" monitor for only $200 more. That's upselling! Your goal is to get more money out of the first sale. Below are ten upselling strategies you can use to increase your profits.

1. Deluxe Upsell -You could sell a basic product and tell people for a little more money they can receive the deluxe edition.

2. Money Upsel l-You could offer people the rights to sell the product they are buying from your business. You could charge an extra $30 dollars to get the reproduction rights.

3. Discount Upsell - If you're selling a product people may order again in the future like shave gel, you could offer them a second can of shave gel at a discount.

4. Time Upsell - If you're selling a product or service people subscribe to, like a magazine, you could tell them if they subscribe for two years instead of one, they can receive it half off the cover price.

5. Quantity Upsell -This is similar to the discount upsell. The only difference is you increase the discount by how many products they order. If they order 3 it's a 10% discount, if they order 5 it's a 15% discount.

6. Package Upsell - When you're selling a product you could offer similar products in a package deal. Tell the people the other products are cheaper with the package deal versus purchasing them separately.

8. Free Upsell - You could offer a free sample or trial of your product (your first sale would be free) and then tell people if they order the full version right now they will get a discount.

9. Extra Upsell - There are many things you could charge extra for at the time of sale. It could be giftwrapping, imprinting, custom designs, etc.

10. Extended Upsell - If your product comes with a warranty, you could ask people if they would like to extend the warranty one more year for only $30.

In conclusion, you can use one or all these strategies to increase your profits at the point of sale. Don't be afraid to use your imagination to come up with other upsell strategies.

10 Tips For Writing A Profit Producing Ad

1. You can get ad copy ideas by studying similar product's advertising material. Collect their sales letters, classified ads, web ads, e-mail ads, etc.

2. Know exactly what you want your ad copy to accomplish. It could be to qualify prospects, makesales, generate leads, attract web traffic, etc.

3. Make a complete list of your product's benefits and features. Begin your ad with the most important benefit either in your headline or first sentence.

4. Make your ad benefits as specific as possible. Include exact numbers, percentages, times, colors, smells, sounds, descriptive adjectives, etc.

5. List all the ways your product is different from your competition's. Include all the differences in your ad copy that are better than their product.

6. Use graphics, pictures and drawings of people actually using your product to solve their problem. Include a picture that also shows the results.

7. Make a list of your target audience. Write down what reasons would attract them to purchase your product. Include those reasons in your ad copy.

8. Include any proven facts in your ad copy. They could be customer surveys, scientific tests, product reviews, etc.

9. Tell your audience what kind of support they'll get after they buy. It could be free consulting, tech support, free servicing, etc.

10. Ask people at the end of your copy why theydecided not to buy. This will give you new ideas on how to produce a more profitable ad copy.
